Several protoplast-based genetic engineering techniques emerged, including protoplast fusion, DNA microinjection. Genetic engineering is an assembly of techniques employed for direct genetic modification of organisms or populations of organisms by means of recombination of DNA. These techniques are used to identify, replicate, modify and transfer the genetic material of cells, tissues or whole organisms [ 1, 2 ].
The idea for the pesent book arose from a 3-day seminar which I organized in March for young research workers in plant physiology.
